Extended Stay America - Cleveland, OH

Cleveland, OH

Built on the shore of Lake Erie, Cleveland was ranked among America's most livable cities by The Economist in 2005. This same publication named Cleveland the best city for business meetings in the continental United States. If you are looking for Cleveland hotels, Extended Stay America has several great places to stay, each offering comfortable accommodations and low rates.

Cleveland is home to many large companies, like Eaton Corporation, paint giant Sherwin-Williams Company and regional banking leader KeyBank. Cleveland's largest employer, however, is the Cleveland Clinic, considered among America's best hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Cleveland is becoming a focal point for research in biotechnology and fuel cells thanks to a collaboration between Case Western Reserve University, the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals.

Cleveland has a wonderful selection of museums that are sure to delight culture seekers of all types. One place to begin is the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. You can spend days here, visiting the planetarium and exploring exhibits on prehistoric life, modern wildlife and much more. For a more hands-on approach to science, visit the Great Lakes Science Center with ongoing exhibits on science, the OMNIMAX Theater, and even a 1925 steamship, the William G. Mather.

Ideal for every lover of rock and roll music is a visit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Whether you swayed with the Motown Sound, screamed for The Beatles or remember rock and roll's beginning with Buddy Holly, this museum is sure to bring back wonderful memories.

The great outdoors is a big part of Cleveland's tourist appeal. Local attractions, like the Cleveland Botanical Gardens and the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will please nature and wildlife lovers. When visiting the Botanical Gardens, be sure to see the Eleanor Armstrong Smith Glasshouse. Once inside, you can explore two distinct ecosystems, a Madagascar desert and the rainforests of Costa Rica. Visitors to the zoo won't want to miss the primate collection. With over 3,000 animals, it is the largest such collection in North America.

As the shallowest and warmest of the Great Lakes, Lake Erie is a wonderful place for water recreation of all kinds, and you don't have to go far. Cleveland Lakefront State Park offers visitors great swimming, a nearby fishing pier and plenty of places to walk. The adventurous can go to Wildwood Marina for fishing charters and a variety of boat rental options.

South of Cleveland, but still part of the Cleveland Metroparks, is the Ohio and Erie Canal Reservation. Featuring seven miles of all-purpose trail, hikers can enjoy quiet picnic areas as well as a variety of vistas and even the opportunity to view beaver, deer and other native creatures. If you continue south for a short distance you will come to Brecksville Reservation. Here you can walk among the cottonwoods, willows and sycamore and visit seven distinct gorges.

Just south of Brecksville is the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Available within the Park are traditional activities like hiking, bird watching and fishing. Those who aren't up for a hike can take in the park's sights on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. This year-round attraction takes passengers from Akron to Independence while immersing them in the region's history, thanks to the Voices of the Valley audio tour.

Cleveland gives sports fans a lot to cheer about. Baseball has been a Cleveland favorite since 1894. Today you can catch a Cleveland Indians home game at Progressive Field. Local football fans have been supporting the Browns since 1946, while professional basketball became the city's third professional sport when the Cavaliers were added as an expansion team in 1970.

If golf is your sport and you would rather play than watch, you are in luck. Cleveland has most golf courses per capita of any U.S. city. Just 35 minutes from downtown is Fowler's Mill Golf Course, offering both a 9- and 18-hole golf experience. Golflink.com provides a full list of all the wonderful Cleveland area golf choices.
